July 21, 2006, Newsletter Issue #1: Life Vests Can Be Lifesavers

Tip of the Week

Show your child how to use a life vest. Life vests should meet U.S. Coast Guard safety standards. Show your child where the lifevests are stored, what they are used for and how to put one on. This does not replace the need for a child safety barrier, but can be valuable information in any swimming situation. The knowledge will help your child to learn the rules of water safety and why they are so important to follow. This can be one step, along with baby safety fences, in drowning prevention.
